How it works
Upload your file
Choose one STL file. We show your model in 3D with its size, and tell you straight away whether we can make it.
Choose and pay
Pick the material, colour, finish and quantity. The price updates as you go, and you pay at checkout.
We check your file
We open every file before production to confirm it can be made well at that price. If anything needs to change, we contact you first.
Made and delivered
Your order is made, quality-checked and delivered with tracking. Allow 2 to 3 weeks once we’ve checked your file.
What we can and can’t make
We may decline a file. If we do, we tell you why and refund you in full.
We can make
- One solid model per file, up to 250 × 250 × 250 mm.
- Models at least 2 mm across at their thinnest.
- Up to 20 copies in one order.
- Decorative pieces, spare parts, organisers, figures and models for display.
We can’t make
- Files with several separate parts. Send one part per file, or email us.
- Anything larger than our maximum size. Email us and we’ll quote it by hand.
- Copies of someone else’s design, logo or character without their permission.
- Weapons, weapon parts or anything unsafe.
- Parts that touch food or are used for medical or safety purposes.
Frequently asked questions
What file do you need?
One STL file, up to 50 MB. Most design software and model libraries can export STL. We read the file in millimetres, so if the size we show looks wrong, check the units it was exported in.
How is the price worked out?
From your model’s size and volume, the material and the finish you choose, and the quantity. The price is instant. We confirm it when we check your file, and if it needs to change we contact you before we go ahead.
What if my file can’t be made?
We’ll tell you why. Often a small change to the file fixes it, and we’ll suggest what to change. If we can’t make it, we refund you in full.
Which material should I choose?
PLA Basic suits most indoor pieces and has a soft sheen. PLA Matte has no shine at all.
PETG HF is tougher and copes better with heat, so choose it for parts that are handled a lot or sit in a warm place.
What do the quality options mean?
Standard suits most models. Fine gives smoother curves and finer detail. Extra fine is our smoothest finish, for small, detailed models. Finer finishes take longer to make, so they cost more.
Can you make something bigger?
Our maximum size for one piece is 250 × 250 × 250 mm. For anything larger, email us at hello@woodheadworkshop.co.nz and we’ll quote it by hand.
Can I order a design I found online?
Yes, if its licence allows it to be made for you. We won’t make copies of someone else’s design, logo or character without their permission.
What happens to my file?
Your file stays on your device until you continue to payment. We use it only to make your order. If you don’t go ahead, we delete it within seven days. Our privacy policy has the details.
When will it arrive?
Allow 2 to 3 weeks from when we’ve checked your file. It’s then delivered with tracking.
Where do you deliver?
Anywhere in New Zealand or Australia, with tracking. A flat rate is added at checkout. We ship worldwide. Outside New Zealand and Australia, shipping is quoted individually.
How does Describe it work?
Sign in, tell us what you’d like and roughly how big, and we design it with AI assistance. You see it in 3D with its size and price, and you can ask for up to 2 changes. We check every design by hand before anything is made.
What is a design credit?
One credit gives you one new design and 2 changes to it. Credits cost $9 for 1 or $19 for 3. If we can’t make a design from your description, the credit isn’t used. Making your design is priced separately, like an uploaded file.
What happens to my description?
We send your description to our AI provider to create the design, and keep it with your design so we can check and make it. It isn’t used to train their models. Unpaid designs are deleted after seven days. Our privacy policy has the details.
